We met with the beneficiaries of our integration projects, from Syria, Yemen, Iraq, Afghanistan, Turkey and Palestine, and learned more about the traditions and culture of the Muslim community.

The participants also exerted their competitive spirit, teams were created, and the excellent combination of strategy and luck guaranteed fun and relaxation for all the players. 

The participants from Afghanistan, Morocco, Iraq, Syria, Albania, Serbia together with the Romanians formed mixed teams and socialized during the match breaks. Through the event, they had the opportunity to interact with those around them, to develop their sports abilities, to cooperate and to develop their teamworking skills in a multicultural team. 

On this occasion, the beneficiaries developed culinary knowledge, discovering traditions and dishes specific to countries such as Afghanistan, Morocco, Serbia, Jordan, Yemen, Albania, Syria and Iraq.

Each nationality participated in the decoration of the event space, as well as in the food preparation. The Serbs prepared the traditional Serbian cake with biscuits, sweet cream, raspberries and cream, the Afghans prepared a traditional dish called Kabuli Palaw, which is composed of steamed basmati rice mixed with raisins, carrots and beef. The Jordanians made Mansaf, their national dish with meat cooked in a dry fermented yogurt sauce and served with rice.

The Syrians cooked Yabrak, meaning cabbage rolls made with vine leaves, prepared from minced meat mixed with rice, potatoes, carrots, pomegranates and various oriental spices. The Moroccans prepared Tajine, a Berber dish, named after the dish in which it is cooked. The ingredients of this dish are: rice, peas, potatoes, meat, pumpkin and pepper. They also prepared a tuna salad, a beef soup and a garnish made of chickpeas and eggs.

The Iraqis prepared a traditional cake from coconut, cardamom, almonds, Oreo powder, flour and rose water. The Albanians prepared Tave Kosi, a national Albanian dish made from meat and rice with a mixture of yoghurt and eggs. They all sang and danced traditional dances specific to their countries of origin.

This event was attended by 25 beneficiaries (TNCs and BIPs) and volunteers of the project from Afghanistan, Morocco, Serbia, Jordan, Yemen, Albania, Syria, Lebanon, Palestine, Iraq.

The conference took place at the Butoiul de Aur Restaurant, in a multicultural and dynamic atmosphere.

A significant part of the conference was the moment in which the mediators, volunteers and beneficiaries of the project were invited to present their life experiences as foreign citizens in Oradea in a free way, the problems they encountered and the role of this project in their integration process, the importance of the authorities involvement and the local community, their proposals for facilitating the integration of foreigners in Romania.

Statistics were presented, challenges, activities and results obtained as part of the project, but on the same time the role and importance of the local authority’s involvement was emphasized.

The conference ended with presenting the perspectives of continuing the activities of the Regional Integration Centre Oradea, proposals, recommendations and conclusions.
